Tourist information on the town of Shikabe, Hokkaido. Shikabe Town is a rich fishing town facing the South Hokkaido Pacific Ocean, with fishing all year round. Shikabe as a port town is also popular. The roadside station has an intermittent spring where hot spring water gushes out, and steamed dishes using hot spring water and the Hamano Kaasan Restaurant are popular. ■ Michi-no-Eki Shikabe Kanketsusen Park
Shikabe Geyser Park "Shikabe Kanketsusen", a Hokkaido Heritage Site, is a rare roadside station and park in Japan.
The Shikabe Geyser erupts every 10 minutes to a height of about 10 meters. There is also a footbath in the park that uses the hot spring water.

■ Empty-handed fishing experience
You can enjoy fishing at the fishing port of Shikabe. Besides, the fish which you just caught can be made into tempura on the spot.
You don't need anything, and it's equally suited to beginners.

■ Forest walking at the resort at the foot of Mt. Komagatake
Walk along with a guide through the Shikabe Resort forest which is rich in Hokkaido's stunning nature.
Other than the forest walk, you can enjoy the aroma and try a fun experience using a nose flute.

The Shikabe course where the face of Mt. Komagatake changes as you go. Follow the wind from the base of the mountain towards the sea.

■ A popular town for golf, hot springs and gourmet
Shikabe country club (18 holes, par 72), Onuma International country club (18 holes, par 72) are both popular courses for their magnificent views. Relax enjoying the hot springs and local cuisine.

[Shikabe's Character Carus-kun]

Shikabe-cho is about a 30 minute drive from the Hokkaido Shinkansen New Hakodate Hokuto Station. Adjacent to the beautiful nature of Onuma Quasi-National Park and exceedingly high mountain Mt. Komagatake. The fishery is prosperous, facing the Pacific which is abundant in seafood such as scallop, octopus, kombu, and walleye pollack. The marine product processing industries are prosperous, too and ship many processed marine products including cod roe.
In addition, it is the town of hot springs where the geyser evidences the rich quantity of water when it gushes.
